Before Your Treatment

To minimise the risk of bruising, swelling, infection, discomfort, and other complications, please follow the recommendations below.

Avoid for 24–72 Hours Before Treatment

  • Alcohol consumption. Please inform your clinician if you consumed a large amount of alcohol in the days prior to treatment.
  • Smoking where possible.
  • Anti-inflammatory medications unless medically necessary and approved by your prescribing doctor.
  • Fish oil / omega-3 supplements.
  • Vitamin E supplements.
  • Herbal supplements that may increase bruising risk (e.g. garlic, ginseng, gingko biloba, turmeric).
  • Intense exercise immediately prior to treatment.
  • Preferably attend your appointment without make-up over the treatment area.

Please Inform Your Practitioner If You

  • Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Have allergies or previous reactions to cosmetic treatments, local anaesthetic agents, latex, adhesives, or gloves.
  • Have a history of cold sores near the treatment area.
  • Have autoimmune conditions or immune system disorders.
  • Have neurological or muscular conditions.
  • Have active skin infections, acne, rashes, dermatitis, or open wounds in the treatment area.
  • Are currently unwell or have fever symptoms.
  • Are taking blood-thinning or anti-platelet medications (including Aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, etc.).
  • Have undergone recent cosmetic procedures, dental work, surgery, or vaccinations.
  • Have a history of keloid or poor scar formation.
  • Have had previous facial surgery or trauma.

After Your Treatment

For the First 1 Hour

  • Avoid rubbing, pressing, massaging, or manipulating the treated areas unless specifically instructed.
  • Avoid make-up, sunscreen and other skin products.

For 7 Days

  • Avoid facial treatments or skin procedures.

For 1–2 Weeks

  • Results may gradually develop over several days to 2 weeks.
  • Mild asymmetry can occur during this period and often settles naturally.
  • Attend review appointments if recommended by your clinician.

Expected Side Effects (Common and Usually Temporary)

The following side effects are possible and are commonly mild and temporary:

Mild Redness

Usually temporary and settles within hours to days. Cool compresses may help. Report prolonged redness or symptoms concerning for allergy or infection.

Swelling

Generally mild and short-lived. Can occasionally last longer depending on treatment area and individual healing response.

Tenderness or Soreness

Usually mild and temporary. Simple pain relief, hydration, and rest may assist if appropriate.

Bruising

Can occur despite careful technique. Usually small and temporary but may occasionally be more noticeable or prolonged. Arnica-based bruise creams from pharmacies may help.

Small Bumps or Injection Site Irregularities

Usually temporary and improve over days. Contact the clinic if persistent, enlarging, painful, or associated with redness.

Mild Headache

Can occur for several days after treatment. Usually mild and manageable with hydration, rest, and simple analgesia if medically appropriate. Seek urgent medical review if severe, prolonged, associated with vision changes, weakness, speech difficulty, severe dizziness, or neurological symptoms.

Temporary Tightness or Heaviness

A temporary sensation of tightness, heaviness, or altered facial movement may occur and generally settles over days to weeks.

Temporary Eyelid or Eyebrow Drooping

Can occur rarely and may last days to weeks. Please contact the clinic for assessment and management advice.

Mild Asymmetry

Temporary asymmetry can occur during the settling phase. Further review may occasionally be required.

Rare or Very Rare Risks and Complications

Infection

Rare but possible. Symptoms may include increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pain, discharge, fever, or feeling unwell. Medical treatment including antibiotics may be required.

Allergic or Hypersensitivity Reactions

Rare. Reactions can range from local swelling and rash to more significant immune responses requiring urgent medical treatment.

Immunological or Inflammatory Reactions

Very rare. Potential symptoms may include: Chronic swelling, redness, pain, fatigue, , chronic headache, body aches, joint pain, brain fog, poor concentration, anxiety or low mood, chest discomfort or palpitations

These reactions may persist for days, weeks, months, or rarely longer. Management may require investigations, medications, specialist input, psychological support, pain management, or other therapies.

Persistent Functional or Cosmetic Changes

Very rare prolonged weakness, asymmetry, altered facial movement, or muscle imbalance may occur.

Scarring

Very rare but potentially permanent. Management may require dermatology or plastic surgery input, prescription medications, laser therapies, skin needling, or other advanced treatments.
